Remember when you were a kid and summer vacation seemed to go on and on and on? By the time I had to go back to school, I felt like I?d been taking swimming lessons and family road-trips and watching midday reruns of Gilligan?s Island and The Brady Bunch forever.
You get older and the days, weeks, months, years, just seem to fly by. I?m mean, really, how can I be almost forty years old? Since when did I turn thirty? And how in God?s name is it possibly August already? August, for crying out loud! That means it?s almost back-to-school time, again!
We got the tip off recently when we stumbled on some Yahoo Answers questions from young people getting ready to go off to college. One of them, a young woman clearly glad to get away from Mom and Dad, just wanted to know what she needed to do be get ready to live on her own.
Health insurance, anyone? The eHealthInsurance reply was voted Best Answer:
One thing you should know before you leave is how your health insurance is going to work. Most schools require you to have some form of coverage. The new health reform law allows you to stay on a parent?s health insurance plan until you turn 26, whether or not you?re in school. However, if your parents don?t want to keep you on the plan or if you?ll be going to school in another state without access to in-network doctors and hospitals, you may want to explore other options.
These might include school-sponsored health insurance plans or individually-purchased health insurance plans. If you want to learn more about your individually purchased coverage options, check out the health insurance buyer?s guide we wrote just for college students. It?s available for free.
Best wishes.
