Important Things to Know About Payday Loans! - Information ...

Most people, who live on a fixed monthly salary, try to plan out their monthly expenses, including those that are over and above the regular ones, such as a holiday outing, or a medical check-up.

But despite all the planning, many a time, you may find yourself faced with urgent expenses for which you may not have enough left to spare nor can you defer it till your next payday. In such situations, fast payday loans come in as a handy solution.

Payday loans are short term payday advance loans that are provided to borrowers when they need money urgently to tackle financial emergencies. These types of loans are given at significantly higher interest rates and the borrower needs to repay by the next payday.

It is true that fast payday loans give you money and peace of mind, but at times they can be quite confusing. Hence, it is essential to know the financial terms involved in these loans, before going in for a payday loan.

Discussed below are some of these important aspects:

1. Annual Percentage Rate:

Annual Percentage Rate, also known as APR is the standard measure to find out the total cost of a fast payday loan. Usually, on a 30 day payday loan, the APR is 1355 percentage. There are many lenders who do not prefer to disclose the APR values to the customer. However, it?s important to know the APR value as it tells the exact amount needed to return back to the lender.

For example, you borrowed ?100 from any financial company for a period of one month. At the end of the month you need to return the original ?100 plus ?25 as interest. That ?25 indicates that there is an APR of 25% on the payday loan.

2. Roll over:

Suppose you have borrowed say ? 200 but by the time of your next payday, you are unable to repay the loan. Then what? Here comes the facility of ?roll over?.

Roll over is a very commonly used term in the loan industry. This facility is quite helpful for borrowers who are unable to repay the loan on time and wish to apply for an extension on their loan. With roll over, payday lenders extend the repayment date to the next payday.

But, now the borrower needs to pay more interest as the lender usually charges additional fee for each rollover, thus, adding more interest to the original debt value. It is possible to have multiple rollovers on one single fast payday loan but not all payday lenders provide such facility.

3. Borrowing from a trusted provider:

Before selecting a money lending company, the borrower must be aware of the authenticity of that company. Take it as a negative signal, if very little information is available about the lender?s profile, or if a lender speaks too much about the terms and conditions of the loan.

4. Local rules and regulations:

Payday advance loan is a very new concept, but due to its attractive features it has gained popularity. Yet, in many countries it is regarded as a controversial practice and at times had to face legal battles to prove its worthiness. Hence, it becomes very important to apply for a loan from a payday loan lending company which is approved and legal.

Keep in mind these above mentioned points to avoid future inconvenience while applying for a fast payday loan.

Color Your Business: Best Colors For Your Office, Products And Packaging

Profits in the red? Maybe you should paint your storefront or office walls blue.

Mike Kapnick, 41, wasn't worried about his company's profits when he painted the inside of his family business a few months ago, but he did give a lot of thought to what he wanted the interior environment to look like.

"While we wanted to maintain a business feel, we also wanted our employees to feel comfortable in the office," said Kapnick, president of Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Kapnick Insurance Group.

Kapnick wound up choosing slate blue, tan, a khaki and olive green mix and cream, and says of the look: "There is also an abundance of natural light in the building, so we felt the soothing outdoor colors would be a good fit. This combination has helped foster a team environment throughout the office, which is what we were looking for."

The idea that colors affect how customers shop, workers work and the general public behaves has been around for a while. Take a look at our color chart to get a sense of whether you're happy with your business's color palette.

Blue and Green

What it's good for: A busy office environment. Studies show that people are more productive and confident in offices that are painted blue or have blue furniture -- any type of blue cues. For instance, a comprehensive, landmark study conducted by the University of British Columbia showed that a blue environment can help with productivity. What's more, blue has a calming effect on the public.

"Blue is calming, tranquil and soothing, like the ocean, which recedes away," said Chris Ring, vice president of operations and training for national franchise ProTect Painters (http://www.protectpainters.com/). "Because of that mentality, when we paint an accent wall, for instance, it feels calming and serene."

Green also is "a prevalent color in our natural environment," Ring said. "Think trees, grass -- those are the elements we've historically seen and been part of, and the color green is perceived in the same way, as a natural, calming color."

Red

What it's good for: An office environment that requires a lot of attention to detail. The University of British Columbia study showed that the color red boosts performance when workers have detail-oriented tasks like proofreading or anything that requires memory retrieval. Red is also often used as an attention getter on packaging.

But red might not work for restaurants. A study conducted by University of Basel in Basel, Switzerland found that the color red acts like a subconscious stop sign, helping people limit their food intake.

Black (and White)

What it's good for: Luxury businesses and high fashion companies. It's elegant and distinctive, perfect for luxury businesses (think jewelry) and some logos and branding, said Jack Taylor, professor of retail at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Ala.

Karen Mishra, assistant professor of business at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, said the brand Two Men and a Truck Intl. is one company that nicely uses black and white in their logo. "They enforce the use of their black and white brand logo on their trucks and other packaging with their franchisees because it is very distinctive and they want to maintain a consistent image around the country from franchise to franchise," Mishra said.

Yellow and Orange

What it's good for: Office break rooms, restaurants and public bathrooms. "It's a cheery, energetic color," said Ring, who cautions not to go wild with yellow, especially if there's a lot of natural light that could make your yellow obnoxiously yellow. "It can cause some anxiety. For instance, if you go with a light yellow and then an accent wall that's purple, that can give an energetic feel to the room."

Ring offers a similar sentiment for orange. "Light shades of orange," he said, "can make people feel stimulated and happy. It's a playful color with a lot of warmth."

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes split after five years of marriage

Holmes and Cruise were once so lovey-dovey. ( Eric Charbonneau/WireImage)Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing after five years of marriage. The actress? attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, says in a statement to People: ?This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Soon after Holmes' announcement, Cruise released his own statement on the split. "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children," his rep tells People."Please allow them their privacy to work this out."

Holmes filed in New York on Thursday, and according to TMZ, she is seeking sole custody and "primary residency custody" of Suri, 6, as well as a "suitable amount" of child support. The site also reports that the couple has a prenup. Together, they are worth a reported $275 million, with Cruise earning the bulk of that.

The Hollywood couple wed in a lavish ceremony in Italy in November 2006 with their daughter Suri, then just a baby, by their side. It was the first marriage for Holmes and the third for Cruise, who was previously wed to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers.

Cruise, who turns 50 on Monday, and Holmes, 33, have not been seen together in public since April 1 when they stepped out hand-in-hand and seemingly very happy. Still, the actress did not accompany her husband on the red carpet for any of his recent ?Rock of Ages? premieres and was noticeably absent when he received the Friars Foundation's Entertainment Icon Award on June 12 ? a big deal considering he is only one of four people to ever get the honor. Her excuse? Holmes had to appear at an ice skating event in China. Instead, Cruise brought along Suri as his date, as well as his 17-year-old son Connor (whom he adopted with previous wife Nicole Kidman). "[Katie's] in China working," he said during his speech. "The women are all working. So Suri is my date this evening. Suri, thank you. My son Connor is [also] here. You guys really inspire me."

[Related: Celebrity Breakups of 2011 (Photos)]

Holmes, who has been in New York City with Suri while Cruise has been filming in Iceland, hasn't exactly been acting like a woman upset over the ending of her marriage. In recent weeks, the former ?Dawson?s Creek? star has looked happier than she has in a long time, smiling for the cameras, walking around Manhattan, and hanging out with pals ? which ironically is exactly how she was living her life before Cruise mysteriously swept her off her feet in April 2005, just weeks after she split from fianc? Chris Klein.

On May 23 of that year, Cruise made quite a spectacle of his new love when he infamously jumped on the couch on ?The Oprah Winfrey Show? and pumped his fists for joy, as he gushed to the talk show host. ?What has happened to you?? joked Winfrey. ?This is how I feel about it,? replied an elated Cruise. ?I?m in love!? Less than a month later, he proposed to Holmes, then just 26, atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris. And if it wasn?t whirlwind enough, in October of that year, the two announced they were expecting their first child together. Daughter Suri was born in May 2006. Although Cruise and Holmes often said they couldn?t wait to have more children, they never did.

Google puts Chrome on iPhone and iPad (update: video)

Google puts Chrome on iPhone and iPad

Google just did what many thought wasn't possible -- it just put mobile Chrome on iOS. Both iPad and iPhone users will get the app, either with incognito browsing, syncing and that unique tabbed browsing interface intact. The company hasn't said what's changed versus the Android build, but it's likely the main differences are matters of integration -- Apple's app rules won't let Google bring in its own WebKit rendering engine tweaks or change the default browser. Whether or not that switch is a dealbreaker, Chrome should be available later today in the App Store for those who want a break from the Safari norm.

Check out our full coverage of Google I/O 2012's developer conference at our event hub!

Update: No download just yet, but Google is teasing us with a video that you can find after the break. The iOS port shows up at the 43-second mark.

Ford Focus EcoBoost 1.0L Review

With the proliferation of its EcoBoost technology and an ongoing battle to be a leader in the fuel economy segment one can?t help but wonder how small of an engine Ford will be willing to offer in its North American lineup.

FAST FACTS

1. Ford EcoBoost 1.0L 3-cylinder was recently named International Engine of the Year

2. Fuel Economy is rated at as high as 49 mpg.

3. Set to arrive on our shores, we're likely to see the EcoBoost 1.0L in the Focus and Fiesta.

At present, the answer seems to be a 1.0-liter three-cylinder, incorporating direct injection and turbocharging. Developed by Ford?s U.K. technical center in Dunton, Essex, this engine was conceived primarily for powering Ford?s smaller volume vehicles in Europe, namely the Fiesta, Focus and its B-Max and C-Max derivatives.

This week in Dearborn, Ford reaffirmed plans that the EcoBoost 1.0 is definitely coming to North America, though declined to say exactly when (sometime next year was the best we could get), or which cars in its lineup will offer it.

Nevertheless, AutoGuide was given a chance to sample the motor in a Euro-spec Focus at the Dearborn Proving Grounds.

TWO POWER OUTPUTS

?

In Europe, the Ecoboost 1.0 is currently offered in two versions: one that develops 98 horsepower and the other, 123 horsepower. Availability is currently restricted to the Focus, though Ford says it will be offered in the B-Max and C-Max later this year.

Features of this engine, which is about the size of an A4 sheet of paper, include a low inertia turbocharger, designed to spin at low rpm for better throttle response, while an exhaust manifold cast into the cylinder head has been designed to lower exhaust temperatures and therefore optimize air/fuel ratios across a wider rpm spread.

?

2013 Ford Focus EcoBoost 10 engine

?

In addition, in order to maximize efficiency and fuel economy the engine uses a cast-iron instead of aluminum block. The idea is to promote faster warm up, reducing the need for more fuel when cold, thus boosting gas mileage and lowering emissions.

In Europe, the 98-horsepower engine is rated at 4.8-liters per 100 km (49 mpg US), while the 123 hp version is said to deliver 5.0 liters per 100 km (47 mpg US). We should point out, however, that those numbers are based on the less strict European test cycle and should drop by as much as 20 percent once US EPA testing is done. CO2 emissions output is rated at 109 grams per kilometer and 114 g/km respectively.

2013 Ford Focus EcoBoost 10 work

Because three-cylinder engines are inherently unbalanced and in the past, often incredibly coarse under load (just ask anybody who?s ever driven a Geo Metro), Ford has decided to tackle this issue by installing an unbalanced flywheel, in an effort to improve smoothness without the need to install power robbing balance shafts.

The question is, does it work?? Well, during our fairly brief stint driving the car on the track, two things readily became apparent. Firstly, for such a small engine the EcoBoost 1.0 delivers a healthy wallop of torque at low rpm.

Secondly, it feels and sounds very much like a small diesel engine, even though it runs on gasoline. In our six-speed manual test Focus we had no problem accelerating out of corners and traversing hills and dips on the test route. Usually, in a car of this size with a gas engine this small, the thing would have trouble getting out of its own way, yet the EcoBoost 1.0 was responsive, peppy even.

Although not as smooth as its larger 1.6 and 2.0-liter four-cylinder counterparts, it?s far removed from the likes of that nasty old Suzuki unit found in the Geo Metro and is without doubt, an overachiever of an engine. And, like other EcoBoost motors, it?s designed to run on regular grade fuel.?

WHAT WILL WE GET IT IN?

?

2013 Ford Focus EcoBoost side

?

At this point it?s difficult to say, though we?ll interpret small cars to mean likely the Focus and possibly the Fiesta too. If and when that does happen, Ford will likely list it as an option on the Focus rather than the standard engine, in keeping with practice on other models such as the Taurus and F-150. That way, consumers will have a chance to warm to it, since after all, the idea of a three-cylinder engine in a regular passenger car is still alien to most Americans.

As to any changes we can expect from the European version, engineers we talked in Dearborn this week said they would be minimal, restricted to minor spark calibrations and ECU settings.?

THE VERDICT

?

Expecting to be underwhelmed, the Ford's new 1.0L EcoBoost engine surprises with power and is a reassuring sign that the return of the 3-cylinder engine won't spell a new era of outrageously underpowered cars. Perfectly suitable in terms of power for the Focus, it's certain to be an even better match in the Fiesta. There's still more to be done in the area of refinement, while perhaps the biggest potential drawback will be Ford's strategy of pricing its EcoBoost offerings above the conventional gasoline ones, meaning those interested in this ultra efficient gasoline engine have to settle for its diesel-like characteristics.

FDA clears first new weight-loss pill in 13 years

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Food and Drug Administration has approved Arena Pharmaceutical's anti-obesity pill Belviq, the first new prescription drug for long-term weight loss to enter the U.S. market in over a decade.

Despite only achieving modest weight loss in clinical studies, the drug appeared safe enough to win the FDA's endorsement, amid calls from doctors for new weight-loss treatments.

The agency cleared the pill Wednesday for adults who are obese or are overweight with at least one medical complication, such as diabetes or high cholesterol.

The FDA denied approval for Arena's drug in 2010 after scientists raised concerns about tumors that developed in animals studied with the drug. The company resubmitted the drug with additional data earlier this year, and the FDA said there was little risk of tumors in humans.

"The approval of this drug, used responsibly in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle, provides a treatment option for Americans who are obese or are overweight and have at least one weight-related comorbid condition," said FDA's drug center director, Dr. Janet Woodcock, in a statement.

With U.S. obesity rates nearing 35 percent of the adult population, many doctors have called on the FDA to approve new weight loss treatments.

But a long line of prescription weight loss offerings have been associated with safety problems, most notably the fen-phen combination, which was linked to heart valve damage in 1997. The cocktail of phentermine and fenfluramine was a popular weight loss combination prescribed by doctors, though it was never approved by FDA.

In a rare move, the FDA explicitly stated in a press release that Belviq "does not appear to activate" a chemical pathway that was linked to the heart problems seen with fen-phen.

The FDA said the drug acts on a different chemical pathway in the brain, which is believed to reduce appetite by boosting feelings of satiety and fullness.

Belviq is one of three experimental weight-loss drugs whose developers have been trying for a second time to win approval, after the FDA shot them all down in 2010 or early 2011 because of serious potential side effects.

Vivus Inc.'s Qnexa is thought to be the most promising of the drugs, achieving the most weight loss. But the FDA has delayed a decision on that pill until July.

Shares of San Diego-based Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc. jumped $2.07, or 23.4 percent, to $10.92 in trading Wednesday afternoon. Shares of Mountain View, Calif.-based Vivus rose $1.61, or 6.1 percent, to $28.01

Arena's studies showed that patients taking Belviq, known generically as lorcaserin, had modest weight loss. On average patients lost just 3 to 3.7 percent of their starting body weight over a year. About 47 percent of patients without diabetes lost at least 5 percent of their weight or more, which was enough to meet FDA standards for effectiveness. By comparison, average weight loss with Qnexa is 11 percent, with more than 83 percent of patients losing 5 percent of their weight or more.

The FDA said patients should stop taking Belviq after three months if they fail to lose 5 percent of their body weight. Patients are unlikely to see any significant weight loss by staying with the drug.

Side effects with the drug include depression, migraine and memory lapses.

In May a panel of expert advisers to the FDA voted 18-4 to recommend approval of Arena's drug, concluding that its benefits "outweigh the potential risks when used long term" in overweight and obese people.

Experts say the challenge of weight loss drug development lies in safely turning off one of the body's fundamental directives: to eat enough food to maintain its current weight.

While several drugs are available for short-term weight loss, until Wednesday there was only one FDA-approved prescription drug for long-term weight loss: Xenical from Roche, which is seldom prescribed because of unpleasant digestive side effects and modest weight loss. Belviq is the first new prescription drug approved to treat obesity since Xenical's approval 13 years ago.

Other safety failures for diet pills have continued to pile up in recent years.

Four years ago Sanofi-Aventis SA discontinued studies of its highly anticipated pill Acomplia due to psychiatric side effects, including depression and suicidal thoughts. In 2010, Abbott Laboratories withdrew its drug Meridia after a study showed it increased heart attack and stroke.

What Are Payday Loans? | InfinityFinancialServices.com

Payday loans are small-dollar, short-term, unsecured loans that borrowers promise to repay out of their next paycheck or regular income payment. Payday loans are usually priced at a fixed-dollar fee, which represents the finance charge to the borrower. Because these loans have such short terms to maturity, the cost of borrowing, expressed as an annual percentage rate, can range from 300 percent to 1,000 percent, or more. An example of a typical loan process for payday lending is described in the adjacent box.

How Payday Loans Work

In return for the small loan ? usually less than $500 (See Chart 1) ? the borrower provides the lender with a check or debit authorization for the amount of the loan plus the finance charge. The lender agrees to defer presentment of the check until the customer?s next payday. At the next payday, the customer may redeem the check by paying the loan amount plus the finance charge, or the lender may cash the check. In some cases, the borrower may extend the loan by paying only the finance charge and writing a new check.

Violence tops debate ahead of Venezuela vote

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) ? Natalia Guzman stepped hesitantly into the morgue looking for her only son. She was led to rows of refrigeration units, where after peering at more than a dozen corpses she finally found 17-year-old Jaime.

Trembling and in tears, she embraced relatives outside the building and said her son's body had been riddled with bullets. She blamed a drug-dealing gang in her slum for the killing and complained that police might have prevented it had they been patrolling her neighborhood.

The rising tide of violent crime that has engulfed Venezuela has become a top issue in the country's presidential campaign, with opposition candidate Henrique Capriles blaming President Hugo Chavez's government for failing to halt the bloodshed. Yet Guzman and many other Venezuelans appear to have lost faith in the ability of any government as well as the police to address the problem, no matter who wins the October vote.

"Crime is out of control, and I don't think any politician, neither Chavez, nor Capriles, is going to change that," Guzman said, speaking in a low voice that at times cracked when she cried.

The government says more than 14,000 people were killed in Venezuela last year, giving the country a murder rate of 50 per 100,000 people and making it one of the most violent countries in Latin America and the world. The murder rate has more than doubled since 1998, when Chavez was first elected.

At campaign rallies, Capriles has been promising to fix what he calls one of Chavez's most glaring failures, declaring: "We will have to choose between life or death."

Chavez has responded by banning gun sales, expanding a new national police force and launching an anti-crime plan with stepped-up policing and other programs in high-crime areas.

It's unclear how the political tug-of-war on crime may affect the race. But Chavez's opponents are hammering away on the issue, convinced that some voters will be swayed.

Capriles' campaign manager, Leopoldo Lopez, said as he presented the opposition's "Security for All" anti-crime plan that nearly 14 years after Chavez was first elected, the president's promises are too little, too late. "He's never made the issue of security a priority, until now when he tries to use it as a political banner," Lopez said.

Experts say violent crime has increased in the country due to easy, cheap access to guns, a culture of violence among young men in the slums, and severe shortages of police officers and prosecutors.

Criminologist Fermin Marmol Garcia said Venezuela's fundamental problem is that for more than a decade, "the institutions that weigh heavily on crime prevention and suppression were not strengthened."

In polls, Venezuelans consistently rate violent crime as their top concern. But many tend to blame long-standing institutional problems such as police forces viewed as corrupt and incapable, rather than pointing fingers at politicians.

"For Capriles, the challenge is putting the issue on the pedestal, linking it directly to Chavez, showing that he's responsible and creating hope that it's possible to solve the problem," said Luis Vicente Leon, a Caracas-based pollster and political analyst. He said Capriles, who has been trailing in the polls, hasn't yet been able to gain traction on the issue.

Guzman isn't committed to either presidential candidate, and so far Capriles' anti-crime message hasn't resonated with her.

She said her son's motorcycle was stolen when he was killed after a street party, and she suspects the gunmen who killed him are the same toughs who terrorize her neighborhood.

"The police are almost never around when there's a problem. They always arrive hours afterward and they never capture anybody," Guzman said. "It's the thugs, not the police, who control the neighborhoods."

The authorities say a majority of the country's killings involve young men, often battling in poor neighborhoods over turf or drug dealing, or in simple rivalries. Crime has also been expanding into places once seen as safe, such as movie theaters, shopping malls and parking garages where security guards stand watch.

Shooting victims are often brought to the Perez de Leon Hospital near Petare, Venezuela's largest slum, where Guzman's son was gunned down. At the hospital, janitors mop blood from the white tile floor while doctors scramble to save lives. The victims' friends and relatives anxiously wait outside the emergency ward.

Abductions for ransom have grown rapidly in the past decade, with kidnapping reported to police rising from 52 in 1998, when Chavez was first elected, to 618 in 2009. Security experts say the real number of kidnappings is much higher because most cases aren't reported to authorities.

Recently diplomats from Costa Rica, Mexico and Chile were kidnapped, and all were eventually freed after ordeals lasting from two hours to more than a day.

Among the middle and upper classes, growing numbers of Venezuelans have been trying to take their security into their own hands by enrolling in self-defense courses, hiring bodyguards or bulletproofing their vehicles.

"Business has multiplied," said Ernesto Carrera, director of the School of Personal Protection, which offers intensive self-defense courses. He said his clientele has grown by about 80 percent in the past five years.

Jose Berrios, a 34-year-old businessman, decided to enroll after surviving an armed robbery, and now spends three nights a week at the school learning self-defense techniques and struggling through exercise sessions that include tossing medicine balls, doing pull-ups and lifting weights.

In one training session, an instructor demonstrated how to avoid a carjacking by using a martial arts move to disarm an attacker.

Capriles has been trying to capitalize on Venezuelans' concerns by accusing Chavez of ignoring the issue for most of his presidency. He has promised to take a different approach and make crime-fighting a top priority, laying out a plan that includes putting more police on the streets, raising officers' salaries and bringing more sports and art programs to poor neighborhoods.

Chavez responded by launching his latest anti-crime program last week, dubbed the "Great Mission For Every Life Venezuela." It includes allocating more money to expand training programs for police, starting community programs for troubled youth, expanding a fledgling national police force and targeting law enforcement resources to high-crime areas.

Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami said the country now has about 92,000 police officers in a patchwork of state, local and national police force but acknowledged Venezuela would need about 20,000 more police officers to meet U.N. standards. This September, El Aissami said, about 9,500 new recruits are scheduled to join the Bolivarian National Police after they undergo training.

El Aissami said that the challenge of combatting violence goes beyond hiring more police and building more prisons. Part of the government's program, he said, focuses on giving young men in the slums alternatives through sports and community programs so that they no longer view "a pistol and a motorcycle" as status symbols.

El Aissami told reporters last week that crime "is the most serious problem, the one of greatest concern and the one of greatest attention for the government."

Stylexchange Faubourg is a retail outlet located in one of the entrances of a Ste. Catherine Street historic food mall. Located right next to Concordia University?s campus in downtown Montreal?a young and vibrant student neighborhood?the boutique blends seamlessly into the urban landscape of this diverse, multicultural part of town. The simple and flexible design showcases Stylexhange?s contemporary fashions while at the same time recounting the history and traditions of its surrounding neighborhood.

The black area showcases recently arrived products in a non-organized, market-inspired way. The central workshop, bright and white, is drawn in a way to focus on the work of the in-store stylist who puts together noteworthy combinations of clothes and accessories. The existing entryway of the store was amended to create a linear commercial space, with low ceilings above an open-plan, two level space in the centre. The aesthetic of the new atelier is part design studio, part trendy, second-hand boutique. The store was designed as a canvas for the diverse, cosmopolitan crowd of the area: style, music and graphic art are the real inhabitant of this space.

This central white steel structure is built like an unfinished tent. Loosely but strongly illuminated, it dominates the room, serving both as a showcase for new product arrivals and as a musical and entertainment centre when fashion shows are taking place in the store.

The black space was conceived as a creative canvas of blackboards, with a constantly evolving design. The blackboards allow local artists to decorate the boutique in the colours of the surrounding neighborhood. In this way, art unifies every element of the store, connecting the brands with each other and with the neighborhood. The original floors of the space were maintained. They feature a mix of tiles from different eras, while the subdivisions of the space were painted uniformly, thus recalling the history of the space.

Republican senator says time for compromise

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top Republican lawmaker said Monday it was time for Washington to learn how to compromise again so the country can solve its deepening problems.

"I'm bothered by our politics generally that suggest that if you don't get exactly what you want, that's somehow a failure," said Senator Roy Blunt, a member of his chamber's Republican leadership and the former second-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives.

Blunt, who is Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's liaison to the Senate, spoke at the Reuters Washington Summit, where political leaders are discussing the pressing issues currently confronting U.S. politicians.

His comments deviated from the standard rhetoric of Washington Republicans these days, many of whom will not even use the word "compromise" anymore for fear of appearing to Tea Party supporters to be backing down on matters of principle. John Boehner, the Speaker of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, carefully avoids the term, preferring to speak of finding "common ground."

"I could get in lots of trouble in the current environment saying I think we should have more compromise," Blunt added. But "what I've said about that is what I believe - compromise is the price for living in a democracy.

Former Republican Governor Jeb Bush recently said that his party has moved so far to the right that former President Ronald Reagan, a Republican icon, would feel out of step with it.

"I'm bothered by our politics generally that suggest that if you don't get exactly what you want that it's somehow a failure," Blunt said at the summit held at the Reuters office in Washington.

"The real strength of President Reagan was the ability to explain that if someone was your friend 85 percent of the time, they were not your enemy," Blunt said.

Reagan cut bipartisan deals with the Democratic speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tip O'Neill. They argued, but considered each other friends and found common ground.

"Governing is never the choice between the perfect and the possible. It is always the choice between the possible and deciding you'd rather not get anything done," Blunt said.

"There are times that when the possible is so unacceptable that you're better off saying, 'I'd just rather walk away and start this fight another day."

"But most of time in a democracy accepting what is possible and coming back the next day and starting to work for what you couldn't get is the way to get things done," he said.

TAXES AND THE DEBT

Current Democratic congressional leaders charge that an anti-tax hike pledge taken by many Republicans, including Blunt, have made it difficult to compromise, particularly on efforts to reduce the record U.S. debt.

Blunt said he had no regrets about having signed the pledge drafted and circulated by Grover Norquist, head of Americans for Tax Reform, an influential conservative advocacy group.

"I really think the (deficit) problem is a spending problem, not a taxing problem," Blunt said.

Asked if pledge makes it more difficult to compromise, Blunt paused, shrugged and then smiled. "Pledges would make compromise more difficult," he conceded.

Former U.S. Representative Tom Davis of Virginia, who now heads the centrist Republican Main Street Partnership, said the growing influence of the most partisan elements in both parties had contributed to political gridlock.

"You don't get rewarded for compromise. You get punished for compromise," Davis said at the summit.

Economic instability, a failed government response to Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast in 2005 and dissatisfaction with prolonged wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have fed a sense that government no longer works properly, he said.

"These are imminently solvable problems. The body politic has just shown an inability to address them because it is inconvenient to do so and you'll probably take some hits in doing it," Davis said. "The party that comes in and cleans this up probably gets voted out of office."

Democrats and Republicans have accused each other of failing to negotiate in good faith on a number of issues, from student loan interest rates to a sweeping plan to upgrade the nation's transportation system and create millions of jobs.

Blunt did not point a finger of blame at either side.

"Only in the recent politics of the country has compromise been seen as an evil as opposed to a positive," he said.

"Governing is never the choice between the perfect and the possible. It is always the choice between the possible and deciding you'd rather not get anything done," Blunt said.

"There are times that when the possible is so unacceptable that you're better off saying, 'I'd just rather walk away and start this fight another day."

"But most of time in a democracy accepting what is possible and coming back the next day and starting to work for what you couldn't get is the way to get things done, move the country forward."
